Net Marketing

If you are a PD today, ask yourself: "Why does my morning show not have a blog?" Hell, why doesn't every member of your airstaff have a blog? It can be a place for them to write thoughts as simple as what time to listen for a bit, a song, a contest... whatever. Updating a blog can take less time than writing an email.

And for that matter, why are your airstaff's web pages stagnant in the first place. Why should a listener ever come back to a page that is not updated?

"Opportunities to turn passive listeners into active ones abound. But we miss these opportunities because we are woefully out of date. Or worse, we seize opportunities and then fail to follow through."

For stations who play new music - you know very well that new music is a huge asset and it is the enemy, both at the same time, Why not give your MD a page on your website, updated weekly, that plugs whatever new music you're playing. Anything you can do to familiarize those records is a huge benefit.

Isn't that common sense?

Opportunities to turn passive listeners into active ones abound. In my bleary eyed sleep deprived state I've just thought of two. But we miss these opportunities because we are woefully out of date. Or worse, we seize opportunities and then fail to follow through. Oh, that's the worst offense!

There's no faster way to prove to your P1's that you're inept than to not follow through. It all goes back to attention to detail.

Colophon:

  • I designed and coded this website using just a text-editor and a whole lot of patience. It's powered by Movable Type and hosted by Dreamhost.

  • All opinions expressed here are mine and do not represent any other person or entity. You know how it goes.

  • If you have any comments, get in touch. I'd love to hear them.

Think About It:

  • Call Centers: "Canary Meets Coal Mine":   Instead of connecting with people on an intensely personal and human level, radio has become telemarketers in Iowa where calls to empty studios are rerouted. I'm not sure if it's more sad or offensive, but either way, it's worse than awful.

  • This Is The Manifesto:   One person can change a radio station.
One radio station can change a market.
One market can change the face of commercial radio.

  • Go To Our Website:   Your jocks are wasting airtime plugging websites that suck, yet the website is treated as an afterthought. It makes no sense.
