Are You Mediocre?

A colleague who knows I appreciate this sort of thing passed along the following quote today:

"Mediocre advertising is bad for any business. It defines you as a mediocre company. And you spend money to do it - money that any business could clearly better allocate."

- Kenneth Cole.

Consider that from a radio perspective.

"Mediocre advertising is bad for any business. It defines you as a mediocre company."

Your imaging is your advertising.
Is it mediocre?

Your promotions are your advertising.
Are they mediocre?

Your remotes are your advertising.
Are they mediocre?

YOUR STATION *IS* YOUR ADVERTISING.
Are you mediocre?

Think About It:

  • Think Different:   Apple is selling more computers thanks to the time and effort they put into products like the iPod. What could your station be doing to bring more listeners into the fold? It's time to Think Different.

  • Oldies And The Fatal Flaw:   Remember the Taco Bell ads with the dog? People loved those ads, but the ads didn't sell tacos. Revenue went down and the campaign was scrapped. The question is: does oldies radio as we know it sell cars? Does it sell tacos?

  • The Biggest Threat:   Many broadcasters believe the iPod is radio's biggest threat. This only reinforces my opinion that radio people don't understand people at all.
